frankfurt flughafen hbf
mayhem in germany. large winds closed southern national and international rail services, including my night connection to budapest. all was hanging in the balance of tight connections getting me to serbia the next day. my night train was partially cancelled, but as far as i was informed it was completely gone. right there i made the decision to head in the right direction anyway. getting on an ICE at aroundĀ 7pm towards munich hbf was a good decision that night. i laterĀ found out on that train that the night train restartedĀ in salzburg, and i needed to get there by 3am. an easy feat during the day, but because of deutsche bahn’s lack of evening services, a trek which was slowly tearing itself apart. a single thread held the prospect of me getting to serbia the next day together. a small regional train – the last of the day – from munich to salzburg. it left one minute before we arrived in munich.
deutsche bahn’s incompetence once again saved the day, and the connecting train was late. i got on the train to salzburg.i arrived around 1 am, leaving me to look around the many parked night trains, kept here to slow them down to allow for more comfortable arrival times. among them was my night train, headed towards budapest. i relucantly got into my compartment and slept for however long i could before arriving the next day.
